On the left sidebar (down towards the bottom) is the "Making Your Home Sing! Monday" button which I'd love for you to grab and paste into your post!  It is a "no-follow" button.

Today was my mom's memorial service (as I write this).  You can imagine how tired I am!  ;)

My mom would have loved the service, but mostly she would have loved seeing all the family together.  My family and I were talking about how it took an event like this for everyone to drive over or fly in from out of state.

It's so easy to grow apart when the kids grow up and move away.  Some families are really good at keeping in touch and having get togethers.  We're not really one of them.

Over the years I have had one sibling fighting severe heart disease and open-heart surgery (twice), and another sibling fighting cancer (four times), and as their health has declined, so has their ability to be able to get through a whole day without needing some very long naps.

So big family reunions are difficult for them, not to mention the traveling to get there (they both live several hours from me).  So there have been things they have missed due to their health and not being able to make the trip.  But they were able to make the trip today!

There are other ways to keep in touch with family when you can't be there in person.  The phone still works!  And you can even Skype.  Snail mail works too, as well as email.  There's probably other stuff out that that I haven't even heard of yet.

I keep in touch with my siblings mostly through phone calls.  But we also text  (well, some of us do).  Texting is kind of hard and slow for me, but I like it.  It's just painful for others to watch me text, lol!   ;)

I can't get ANY of my siblings on facebook.  Believe me, I have tried.  I have one sister-in-law who is on there, but can't get anybody else.

I don't have one sibling that lives in the same town as I.  They all live anywhere from an hour to several hours away.  One even lives an airplane ride away!  ;)

So how do you keep in touch with YOUR siblings?  What special things do you do to stay connected?

My mom went home to be with Jesus last Friday.  In fact, I had just finished writing last week's linky party post when I got the phone call.

She had been ill for five months and in and out of the hospital.  We nearly lost her a few times.

During the first few months of her illness she was mostly unable to talk with us and sometimes didn't know who we were and, at one point in July, was given two hours to live. So we loved on her and family came from all over and we said our goodbyes that night.

Then she had an amazing God-given recovery and she was able to talk with us again and knew who we were and able to give hugs and say "I love you"  and have conversations with us for two whole months before she passed away.

We consider those last two months with her as bonus months, since she was on the brink of death and the Lord brought her back to us.

Many years ago my mom asked that I keep her journals after she was gone.  She asked me to read through them and one day, I will.  Believe me, there are a LOT of them so it will take awhile.    ;)

At the time, the journals seemed like a "curse" because I don't like a lot of clutter and I didn't really want to store them.  As I got older I realized what a treasure they would be.  And they are.

I still can't believe she's gone but I know that she is with the Lord and also with my dad, and she's happy and healthy and able to breathe and run around!  And one day, I will see her and my dad again when God calls me home.  And, more importantly, I will see my Lord and Savior!   :)

My mom set an amazing godly example for me as a wife, as a mom, and as a woman and I am thankful that the Lord chose her to be my mom!

I actually planned on having a "real" post this week, I really did.  But my mom is back in the hospital again. So I've been busy running back and forth spending time with her.

She has lost the ability to communicate again and the doctors don't know why.   She seems to be able to say the word "no" pretty well, though, lol!

She said "no" very clearly twice today, and then even said a complete sentence.  After that, she was back to not being able to talk.

She did NOT have a stroke, for which I'm thankful.  But now they are in the process of eliminating things in order to figure out the cause.

She recognized me today, I think.  She is now able to smile (she couldn't smile two days ago) and seemed very happy to see me.  Four days ago she was talking and laughing and conversing and then, in one day, she lost the ability to talk, smile, or move.

But I think she couldn't move because she was just so out of it.  She just laid there unmoving when they brought her into the hospital, unable to respond to anything around her at the time.

But now she can smile and move her arms and legs, just can't talk.  Beyond a few words, I mean.

I don't know if she knows specifically who I am, but she recognizes that I am someone she knows.  I suspect that she knows I am her daughter, since she greeted me with a hug (and she tried to form a kiss) and she didn't do that to the nurse.

Anyway, I feel that we, as her family, are an important part of her recovery, so I want to be there when I can.

Back in July the doctors, at one point, gave her two hours to live but God brought her back, so all this extra time with her is BONUS time and we are making the most of it!  :)
