Making Your Home Sing: Make the Call!

Making your home sing Mondays

Welcome to the Making Your Home Sing Monday meme! Every day you are doing something to make your house into a home for yourself and your family (if you have one). My point with each Monday post is, what are you doing or going to do today to make your home sing?

It can be an attitude or an action. Motivation, our attitude, baking, encouraging our husband or children (if we have either one), organization, cleaning, saving money....the opportunities are endless.

This meme snuck up on me today. My oldest was home from college this weekend and we all had a lovely weekend and Resurrection Sunday together. I love those moments of all being together because they are rare right now, and I know that some day they will even be more rare.

When the kids are young it sometimes feels like you will be in that stage forever.....the diaper stage, the crying, whining stage, the temper tantrum stage. It all feels like forever.

But as you love on them and hug them and cherish moments of their childhood, you realize that time is flying by and your babies are growing up.

From the first "Me do it" when they're trying to do something all by themselves to the "Bye, mom, love you" as they drive away.....it all flies by in a heartbeat. Your heartbeat.

Yesterday you were a mom of a baby and today you are a mom of a college student. Will it all slow down so you can catch your breath?!

This week rock your babies, wipe the noses of your toddlers, hug and love all your littles and middles and enjoy the teens and inbetweens. For this time will be a memory before you know it.

Enjoy your precious children this week, and pick up the phone and give your folks a call and let them know you love them. For some day, that will be you on the other end of that phone, waiting for a phone call from your kids. Call your parents and make their home sing this week!

Do you ever feel like sometimes a blog post is just to big for you? That's how I feel tonight! Who pastors the pastor's wife? Lol! I guess the pastor does, haha, and what a blessing he is to me!

I have a lot going on and some stuff going on with my mom and one of my brothers plus a lot of other stuff. So this week, I think I will just be reminding myself to breathe, pray, and to let God direct my priorities.

There are times when something seems like it is the worst timing, but then you have to stop and remember that God is involved. And when God is involved then the timing couldn't be better! I am determined to be excited about how He is going to work and make my home sing this week!

There Is Always Room For Dessert!

I just need to say something important.

There is always room for dessert.

Thank you. That is all.

O.k., well, maybe there is more......

I don't care how full I am. If you bring on the dessert I am there, sister. I got your back.

For some reason, I can always find space inside for ice cream. Or a cookie. Or both.

I can be moaning and groaning that I am stuffed, but let me get a whiff of chocolate and it is on, people.

I choose to belief that it is because of all the years of training I've had. I have honed my body so it is a lean, mean dessert-eating machine.

I almost never make desserts since my family won't eat them. The kids really don't like cake (there is seriously something wrong with them), an occasional cookie they will eat, or one piece of pie. Then there is all this cake, cookies or pie left the next day that no one but me will eat and people, I am only one woman! I can only eat so much.......

So, if I am out to dinner or over at your house and you bring out the dessert, rest assured that I will weep with joy as I lovingly and graciously step on my husband and childrens' heads in my efforts to get there first thank you for it!

Making Your Home Sing: Where's The Delete Button?

Making your home sing Mondays

Welcome to the Making Your Home Sing Monday meme! Every day you are doing something to make your house into a home for yourself and your family (if you have one). My point with each Monday post is, what are you doing or going to do today to make your home sing?

It can be an attitude or an action. Motivation, our attitude, baking, encouraging our husband or children (if we have either one), organization, cleaning, saving money....the opportunities are endless.

Don't you wish you could edit your speech as easily as you can edit your blog? Wouldn't it be nice to have a "delete" button?

In today's world, with email, facebook and texting at our fingertips, we now have the ability to say whatever we want as quickly as we want, and it arrives instantly.

We can get mad or annoyed with someone and our fingertips will fly and say whatever we're feeling, without giving our brains time to think and without giving our hearts time to give grace.

We can just give an immediate response. No cooling off period, no "Should I say this," no calming down and thinking it through.

Back in the day, if you were talking on the phone with someone and got upset, they might hang up on you. Then you had the option of calling right back, or stopping a minute and thinking (and hopefully praying) about the situation and giving yourself time to calm down, taking time to choose your words.

With texting and facebook so close to our fingertips, oftentimes there is no filter. You can just fire off a status or text if you're upset about something or with someone and let the whole world know.

Also, you can misunderstand the printed word. Without hearing someone's tone or seeing their face, it can be easy to misjudge their words and take it wrong.

Or, if you are upset with someone, it is so easy to read something they wrote and get upset and just fire a response back, without processing your feelings first. Without asking yourself, "Should I?" Sometimes it seems like if we have to ask ourselves "Should I," we shouldn't.

We can do that in the spoken language too. We can hear the stressed tone in someone's voice and snap right back at them. We can hear the whining tone in our children's voices and respond in anger. Where's the "delete" button?

We can respond with words that crush and a tone that is harsh, or we can stop a minute before we respond and think and pray, and choose our words (and tone of voice) carefully.

Which response do you think will make your home sing this week?

This Cookie Is Not The Boss Of Me!

Sometimes I look at this cookie and say "You aren't the boss of me!!!!"

Other times the cookie looks back and says "Oh yeah?"

Most of the time the cookie just waits patiently with a smirk on its face. This cookie had me at hello.

Sometimes I do really well with my eating habits.

Other times I really don't want to know how many calories I am eating. Ignorance is bliss. Because really, if you don't count it, does it really count?

Most of the time I eat standing up so that the calories will fall down to the floor. Unfortunately my ankles get in the way sometimes.

Sometimes I wish that I could go to bed with my makeup on and not feel like I absolutely have to wash it off.

Other times I'm rubbing my eyes like they had a genie in them.

Most of the time I look like a raccoon with my mascara and eyeliner all over the place.

Sometimes I wish I could dance like Beyonce in that t.v. commercial.

Other times....there are no other times.....

Most of the time I still wish I could dance like Beyonce in that commercial.

Making Your Home Sing: It's About Time

Making your home sing Mondays

Welcome to the Making Your Home Sing Monday meme! Every day you are doing something to make your house into a home for yourself and your family (if you have one). My point with each Monday post is, what are you doing or going to do today to make your home sing?

It can be an attitude or an action. Motivation, our attitude, baking, encouraging our husband or children (if we have either one), organization, cleaning, saving money....the opportunities are endless.

As we inch closer and closer towards summer I am amazed at how fast time flies. Seriously, it just seems like Christmas was yesterday. The older I get the faster I am getting there!

Do you ever have days where you wonder where it all went? I mean, you know you were busy, but you wonder what it was you were doing all day. I have days like that sometimes. Sometimes I have weeks like that.

You know how we always say "I meant to do such and such but I ran out of time." That may be true and oftentimes it is. But sometimes we have time wasters, and I don't mean the human kind.

T.v. can waste our time, so can the internet. Facebook, long phone calls, shopping for entertainment, reading a good book......they can all waste time.

There's nothing wrong with relaxing and getting some of the stress out by taking a break. There are times when we need that. The funny thing is, sometimes I think we'd all be surprised at how much time we can waste in a day.

When I think about the times when my kids were little, I realize that I got a lot done back then. That's because I knew I didn't have time to waste and so I used it well.

For the most part I managed to keep up with the housework, meals, dishes, laundry and still had time to spare to read a few pages of a good book, spend time with my family, as well as have my quiet time with the Lord.

Now the kids are older and demand less of my time, (although I do have other things that demand my time, of course). So, in essence, I have much more time than I used to.

However, I find that the more time I have the more in danger I am of managing it poorly. I think this is because I fool myself into thinking that I have all day to get things done (also known as the I've-Got-All-Day-Disease or Igad! for short).

The day can pass you by when you have this disease. You think you have all day to start a project so you keep putting it off and putting it off (procrastination) until you run out of the day!

If you have this disease do not let it rule your life. Take control! Write down everything you do in a day and see what your big time wasters are. If it's not worth writing down on the list, it's not worth wasting your time with.

It's about time you took control of your time, don't you think? I know it's time for me too! I don't have time to be losing time. It's about time I made my home sing!
